French President Emmanuel Macron indirectly criticized Elon Musk during a speech to French ambassadors, accusing the billionaire of supporting a global “reactionary movement” and meddling in European politics, including elections in Germany. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre also expressed concern over Musk’s influence, citing his involvement in German and UK politics.
Musk has supported Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany party and clashed with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. However, he has not yet weighed in on French politics, despite his historically cordial relations with Macron.
Musk and Macron previously collaborated on issues like Notre Dame’s restoration and AI initiatives. Macron, addressing foreign policy challenges, stressed Europe must avoid being “weak and defeatist” to maintain global respect and partnership with the incoming U.S. administration.
