Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) claimed she was “physically accosted” by James McIntyre, a foster advocate, during a Capitol Hill event. Capitol Police arrested McIntyre after he allegedly shook Mace’s arm aggressively during a handshake. Mace appeared in a sling the next day, stating she was in pain.
Elliott Hinkle, leader of the advocacy group, disputed Mace’s account, calling the handshake “passionate” but not aggressive. McIntyre reportedly told Mace, “Trans youth are also foster youth, and they need your support.” He was later released on orders to avoid contacting Mace.
Mace’s team defended her account, saying she was “shaken up,” while Mace criticized the left for dismissing her claims on X.
