Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) escalated tensions on Capitol Hill Wednesday by saying she would “love to see” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) “deported back to Somalia” during a heated exchange on social media.

The clash came as House Republicans moved to censure Omar and remove her from committees over comments she made in a recent interview about conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed earlier this month. Omar condemned the killing but also criticized Kirk’s record, saying his words and actions over the past decade could not be ignored.

Mace, who introduced the censure resolution, argued Omar was “celebrating murder” and suggested deportation. Omar, a naturalized U.S. citizen who came to America as a Somali refugee in 2000, pushed back: “You belong in rehab, not Congress.”

Omar’s office said she condemned Kirk’s murder immediately and that her remarks were misrepresented. “She in no way implied violence was deserved, nor did she celebrate his death,” her spokesperson told Axios.
