Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) said Monday she will introduce a resolution to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and remove her from House committee assignments over remarks Omar made following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
“BREAKING: We’re filing a resolution to strip @Ilhan of her committee assignments after her disgraceful remarks on Charlie Kirk’s assassination,” Mace wrote on X. The resolution seeks to remove Omar from the House Education and Workforce Committee and the Budget Committee.
Omar, in an interview with commentator Mehdi Hasan last week, called Republican efforts to blame the left for Kirk’s death “full of s—.” She said she found news of the killing “mortifying,” adding her thoughts were with Kirk’s family. Omar also criticized President Trump and Mace for inciting hostility toward political opponents.
A spokesperson for Omar said she was “one of the first to condemn Charlie Kirk’s murder,” offering prayers to his family while denouncing political violence “no matter the political ideology.” They added that Omar’s remarks did not celebrate Kirk’s death but reflected on his divisive legacy.
Mace, however, has pointed to Kirk’s killing as evidence of left-wing violence, saying, “If you have a different opinion from the left, they want to kill you.”
