Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) left a closed-door House Oversight Committee meeting with Jeffrey Epstein victims on Tuesday, appearing visibly emotional as she exited the room. Mace, who has publicly shared her own experience as a sexual assault survivor, later said she suffered a “full blown panic attack” while hearing the victims’ testimony.
“Yes I left the Oversight briefing with Epstein victims early,” Mace wrote on X, describing symptoms of sweating, hyperventilation, and shaking. “I feel the immense pain of how hard all victims are fighting for themselves because we know absolutely no one will fight for us. GOD BLESS ALL SURVIVORS.”
The meeting was part of the committee’s ongoing investigation into the federal handling of Epstein’s case. Democrats called for public hearings to allow accusers’ accounts to be heard directly, arguing they may not be fully reflected in Justice Department records. The DOJ began turning over subpoenaed documents to the committee last month.
Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized the importance of hearing from victims, pledging “maximum transparency” and justice for those impacted.
