Former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney announced her support for Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election, ending weeks of speculation about her position. Speaking at Duke University, Cheney explained her decision, citing the “danger” she believes Donald Trump poses to the country.

“As a conservative… I have thought deeply about this. Because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris,” Cheney stated in a video posted on social media.

Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney and a staunch critic of Trump, was ousted from her Wyoming primary in 2022 after co-chairing the House investigation into the Jan. 6 attack. She joins other Republicans, including former Jan. 6 committee members Adam Kinzinger and Denver Riggleman, as Harris supporters. More than 200 alumni from the Bush administration and former GOP presidential campaigns have also endorsed Harris.

Cheney was a member of House Republican leadership during the Jan. 6 attack but broke with her party over Trump’s role, eventually losing her leadership position.
