Audio of former President Joe Biden’s October 2023 interview with special counsel Robert Hur was leaked Friday, revealing how Biden struggled to recall key dates, including the year his son Beau died and when Donald Trump was elected president.
The interview was part of Hur’s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents. While transcripts were made public months ago, the audio, published by Axios, offers a firsthand account of Biden trailing off mid-thought and relying on his attorneys to stay on topic.
At one point, Biden misdated his son’s death and Trump’s election. He refused to take a break, saying, “I want to get it done.”
The White House and Biden’s legal team said the audio reveals nothing new. GOP lawmakers and the NRCC sharply criticized Democrats for previously voting to block its release.
President Trump told reporters it’s “clear to everyone” Biden was “not one of” the mentally fit older leaders and called the situation dangerous for the country.
The leak comes just days before the release of Original Sin, a book alleging White House efforts to conceal Biden’s cognitive decline.
