A lawsuit filed by two federal employees claims the Trump administration’s new email distribution system poses privacy and security risks. The suit accuses the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) of failing to conduct a federally required privacy risk assessment for the system, which could expose federal employees’ private data.
Emails from the system, sent by [email protected], were described as “tests” to confirm its ability to send and receive messages from all federal workers. The acting Homeland Security Secretary reassured employees the address was trustworthy. However, the plaintiffs’ attorney, Kel McClanahan, argued the system increases vulnerability to hacking, citing OPM’s past breaches.
Some federal employees expressed resistance by refusing to respond to the emails, calling it a collective protest. Critics argue the new system endangers sensitive data without proper safeguards.
