Washington, D.C. — Far-right activist Laura Loomer said Tuesday that the Republican Party “has a Nazi problem,” escalating ideological tensions on the right following days of internal conflict, according to reporting from The Hill. In posts on X, Loomer said conservatives should acknowledge extremist elements within the party, adding that recent disputes were “not about Israel,” despite some arguments centering on criticism of the U.S.–Israel relationship.
The uproar began after white nationalist commentator Nick Fuentes appeared on Tucker Carlson’s online show, prompting backlash from conservative leaders and sparking a public rift inside the movement. Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts released a video defending Carlson’s choice to host Fuentes, arguing the think tank would not yield to those attempting to “cancel” Carlson.
The video triggered internal turmoil at Heritage. Board member Robert George announced his resignation, saying he could not remain unless the video was fully retracted. Roberts later apologized to staff, calling his language inappropriate and acknowledging that defending friends does not require endorsing their views.President Donald Trump also weighed in, defending Carlson’s decision and saying controversial voices should be heard. He reiterated that he did not know Fuentes when the commentator attended a 2022 dinner at Mar-a-Lago with Kanye West, who has made antisemitic statements.
The dispute underscores the widening fractures within the GOP over extremism, free speech, and the boundaries of acceptable political discourse—issues that have repeatedly resurfaced ahead of the 2026 election cycle.
