Political scientist Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, expressed skepticism about the potential boost for former President Trump following Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s recent endorsement. Speaking on MSNBC, Sabato noted that Kennedy’s support has been dwindling since Vice President Kamala Harris entered the presidential race, with Kennedy’s poll numbers dropping from the upper teens to as low as 2% in some surveys.
Sabato argued that Kennedy’s endorsement is unlikely to significantly shift his remaining supporters to Trump, stating, “It doesn’t work that way. It’s not going to work that way.” This comes despite a memo from Trump’s pollster, Tony Fabrizio, suggesting that Trump would capture the majority of Kennedy’s supporters in a match-up against Harris. In current polling, Harris leads Trump by 5.6 percentage points in a three-way race, with Kennedy receiving 2.8% of the vote.
