Lara Trump announced she will not pursue the Florida Senate seat expected to open if Sen. Marco Rubio is confirmed as Secretary of State. “After an incredible amount of thought…I have decided to remove my name from consideration,” she shared on X, promising a “big announcement” in January.
Speculation about her candidacy grew after she stepped down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee. Gov. Ron DeSantis will appoint Rubio’s replacement, who will serve until the 2026 election.
Lara Trump, a key figure in GOP successes during the 2024 election, remains influential within the party. Some Republicans supported the idea of her Senate bid, including Maye Musk, who has been tapped to co-lead a federal reform initiative under the incoming Trump administration.
Rubio’s confirmation is expected soon, with DeSantis set to name his replacement in early January.
