Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump criticized the potential replacement of President Biden with another Democrat, bypassing Vice President Kamala Harris. Speaking with Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo, Trump argued that such a move would undermine the democratic process.
“Joe Biden has said he’s not going anywhere. His campaign came out right after that debate and said not only is he not quitting, they have committed to do the debate in September as well,” Trump stated. “Kamala Harris polls just about as bad, if not worse, than Joe Biden.”
Trump emphasized that millions of voters chose Biden in the primaries, making him the presumptive nominee. Replacing him without Harris would be an affront to democracy. “If they decide right here in the 11th hour to plug somebody else in, and it’s not Kamala Harris, I can’t think of a bigger assault to our democratic process than doing just that,” she said.
Despite Biden’s poor debate performance, his campaign remains firm that he will not withdraw. Trump expressed confidence in her father-in-law’s ability to win the presidency, regardless of the Democratic nominee. “People want him back in office,” she concluded.
