Kimball Musk, brother of Elon Musk, called on Trump Tuesday to fire senior trade advisor Peter Navarro, following a public clash over Tesla and tariffs. In a post on X, Kimball questioned Navarro’s credibility, referencing the fabricated expert “Ron Vara” and urging Trump to “put America first and fire him.”
The dispute erupted after Navarro said Tesla was merely a “car assembler,” not a manufacturer, due to its use of imported parts from China, Japan, and Taiwan. Elon Musk responded by calling Navarro a “moron” and stating his claims were “demonstrably false.” He also mocked Navarro’s creation of “Ron Vara,” a fictional trade expert used in his writings.
The spat coincides with Trump’s rollout of new tariffs, including a 25% duty on imported vehicles. Elon Musk has promoted a “zero-tariff” policy between the U.S. and Europe, prompting criticism from Navarro.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to the feud by downplaying it as a case of “boys will be boys.”
