Elon Musk continued his attacks on the Republican-backed “big beautiful bill” Wednesday, urging followers on X to contact lawmakers and oppose the legislation. “Bankrupting America is NOT ok! KILL the BILL,” he posted, escalating a public rift with the Trump White House just days after stepping down as a special adviser.

Musk’s criticism follows a Congressional Budget Office estimate that the bill could add over $2 trillion to the federal deficit. The package, praised by Trump as historic, also raises the debt ceiling by $5 trillion and eliminates tax credits for electric vehicles — a direct hit to Musk’s company, Tesla.

White House officials expressed disappointment with Musk’s stance, while Republicans debated his influence during a closed-door session. Speaker Mike Johnson acknowledged reaching out to Musk but warned, “We don’t have time for a brand new bill.”

Still, some GOP lawmakers aligned with Musk’s deficit concerns, including Sen. Mike Lee and Reps. Scott Perry and John Rose, whose comments Musk shared online.
