House Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-Mass.), the No. 2 House Democrat, described Israel’s actions in Gaza as a “genocide” during a Thursday event in her district.

“Whether that is stopping the starvation and genocide and destruction of Gaza, or whether that means we are working together to stop the redistricting … we each have to continue to have an open heart about how we do this,” Clark said.

Clark is the highest-ranking House Democrat to use the term, joining lawmakers such as Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

At the same event, constituents pressed Clark over her acceptance of $371,187 from AIPAC. She acknowledged taking the contributions but said it did not dictate her stance: “I understand that for some of you that’s a red line.”

The comments come as Prime Minister Netanyahu vowed to “finish the job” in Gaza, where U.N. sources report nearly 62,000 Palestinians have died in the 22-month war.
