Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake has expressed skepticism about the fairness of the 2024 elections, echoing conspiracy theories that previously landed her in legal trouble during her 2022 gubernatorial campaign. In a Fox News interview, Lake voiced strong opposition to voter registration initiatives tied to Medicare and Medicaid sign-ups, suggesting they could lead to fraudulent votes.
Lake stated, “What they want is to have a line in the voter rolls so that somebody can vote for that person.” She believes this is a strategy to enable noncitizens residing illegally in the country to vote in the 2024 election. However, there are no significant records of noncitizens voting in recent elections.
Lake’s comments recall her 2022 campaign, where she made unfounded claims about the 2020 election being stolen and denied her own defeat by Gov. Katie Hobbs (D). These statements have led to legal scrutiny and sanctions for her campaign.
Lake is currently running against Rep. Ruben Gallego (D) in a closely watched Senate race. Early polling and fundraising data show Gallego with a slight lead over Lake.
