Following President Joe Biden’s sudden announcement to suspend his campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris, donations surged. The Biden-Harris 2024 campaign, now Harris for President, raised over $81 million within 24 hours. According to spokesperson Kevin Munoz, contributions from over 888,000 grassroots donors reflect a shift in Democratic sentiments.
“The historic outpouring of support for Vice President Harris represents exactly the kind of grassroots energy and enthusiasm that wins elections,” said Munoz.
Most recent donors were first-time contributors, making the $81 million the highest 24-hour raise in history. This fundraising included the Democratic National Committee and joint fundraising committees. The campaign also gained numerous endorsements from federal and state officials and major Democratic groups.
A Zoom call hosted by Win With Black Women, expected to have 1,000 attendees but joined by over 40,000, raised more than $1.6 million. Munoz stated, “There is a groundswell behind Kamala Harris, and Donald Trump is terrified.”
Harris has an additional $95 million from Biden’s campaign funds. Harris for President Treasurer Keana Spencer confirmed that Harris is now officially a presidential candidate in the 2024 election.
