Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito confirmed a call with President-elect Trump but stated they did not discuss Trump’s emergency application to block his sentencing in the New York hush money case.
Alito explained the call focused on Trump’s inquiry regarding William Levi’s qualifications for a government position, adding he was unaware of the application’s filing during their conversation. Alito emphasized no discussion occurred on matters pending before the Supreme Court.
Trump’s application seeks to halt the prosecution until appeals related to presidential immunity are resolved. Sentencing in the case is scheduled for Friday by Judge Juan Merchan.
Trump’s attorneys argue his transition preparations are vital to national security. ABC News first reported the call. Alito previously participated in a ruling affirming immunity for core presidential powers, favoring Trump. The Hill has sought comments from relevant parties.
