PBS NewsHour senior correspondent Judy Woodruff issued an apology after her comments regarding former President Donald Trump’s role in Gaza cease-fire talks drew criticism. While broadcasting from the Democratic National Convention on Monday, Woodruff mentioned reports that Trump urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to delay a cease-fire deal, allegedly to benefit Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign.
In a follow-up post on social platform X, Woodruff clarified her remarks, acknowledging that they were based on reports from Axios and Reuters, which had since been denied. “This was a mistake, and I apologize for it,” she stated.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office dismissed Woodruff’s comments as a “complete lie,” while a Trump campaign spokesperson criticized PBS for spreading “fake news.” Axios and Reuters had reported on a conversation between Trump and Netanyahu about a cease-fire deal but did not claim that Trump advised delaying it.
