A federal judge on Friday released over 1,800 pages of documents tied to Donald Trump’s election interference case, despite efforts by Trump’s lawyers to delay the release until after the 2024 election. The documents, approved for release by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, are part of a previously unsealed motion by special counsel Jack Smith, which contained new evidence against Trump.

The documents serve as an appendix to Smith’s 165-page motion arguing Trump is not immune from criminal charges related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Much of the released material is heavily redacted, including parts of Trump’s call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Several pages remain fully sealed, marked with “SEALED” and minimal visible information.

Trump’s lawyers had sought to delay the document release until November 2024, nine days after the presidential election, but the request was denied. Trump has pleaded not guilty to the four federal charges in the case.
