A federal judge on Thursday extended a temporary order blocking the Donald Trump administration’s move to revoke Harvard University’s certification to host international students. U.S. District Judge Allison D. Burroughs’ extension comes as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) gave Harvard 30 days to contest the revocation.

DHS had moved to terminate Harvard’s Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification, effectively barring the university from enrolling international students and putting thousands at risk of losing legal status. In response, Harvard President Alan Garber called the move “unlawful and unwarranted,” warning it imperils students’ futures and sets a dangerous precedent for U.S. higher education.

The administration claims its decision is tied to concerns about campus antisemitism and enforcement of federal rules. Critics argue it reflects a broader political effort to target elite universities and restrict immigration under the guise of security and policy enforcement.

Foreign students at Harvard have reportedly flooded the university with transfer inquiries since the initial DHS action. The court’s extended order temporarily protects their status while legal proceedings continue.
