Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee has approved a request from former President Donald Trump and several co-defendants for a certificate of immediate review. This decision enables them to appeal McAfee’s previous ruling, which allowed Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to continue overseeing the election interference case. The Georgia Court of Appeals will now decide whether to consider the appeal.

Judge McAfee emphasized the significance of his order for the case, indicating the importance of an immediate review. Despite the appeal, McAfee plans to proceed with other pretrial motions in the case.

This development follows a statement from Trump’s attorney, Steve Sadow, highlighting the importance of the appeal and expressing optimism that it could lead to the case’s dismissal and Willis’s disqualification. The appeal comes in the wake of the resignation of Nathan Wade, the lead prosecutor in the case, after McAfee ruled that either Willis or Wade must step aside due to a perceived impropriety related to their relationship.
