Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) defended Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents Sunday, calling their actions “the Lord’s work” as the agency faces criticism over recent tactics used in immigration enforcement. “They’re doing what the president promised the American people he was going to do when he ran for the job,” Jordan said on CNN’s State of the Union.
Jordan accused “sanctuary jurisdictions” of refusing to cooperate with ICE, allowing “bad guys” to be released back onto the streets. His comments follow growing outrage after an ICE officer shot a pastor with a pepper ball outside a Chicago-area facility in late September.
Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin defended the officer, saying protesters had blocked an ICE vehicle and “impeded operations.” The video of the incident has gone viral, fueling backlash toward Trump’s deployment of federal officers to Chicago.
Meanwhile, the ACLU of Colorado and migrant advocates filed a lawsuit Thursday accusing federal immigration officials of illegal arrests during ongoing enforcement operations.
