Ohio GOP Sen. JD Vance condemned far-right activist Laura Loomer’s racist comments about Vice President Kamala Harris during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press. Loomer had sparked backlash by tweeting that the White House would “smell like curry” if Harris won the election. Vance, Donald Trump’s running mate, said he didn’t support Loomer’s comments and emphasized the need to focus on policy issues instead.
Vance also defended his repeated, debunked claims that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating pets, despite local officials and Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine stating there was no evidence. Vance insisted he was echoing concerns from his constituents and criticized the media for dismissing the claims.
Trump, while distancing himself from Loomer’s remarks, acknowledged her as a supporter but denied any formal association with his campaign. Loomer has also promoted conspiracy theories about 9/11 and pop star Taylor Swift’s relationship with NFL player Travis Kelce.
