The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Tuesday it opened fire on several individuals approaching troop positions in northern Gaza, describing them as suspects who crossed a boundary established under the recent ceasefire. Gaza’s health authorities said six Palestinians were killed in two separate incidents.
The IDF stated on X that its troops “spotted several suspects” violating the ceasefire line and ignored repeated warnings to retreat. “After multiple attempts to distance them, the suspects refused to comply, prompting troops to open fire to remove the threat,” the statement said, rejecting claims that militants had infiltrated Israeli positions.
The incident comes a day after President Donald Trump visited the region, declaring an official end to the war between Israel and Hamas and celebrating the return of 20 living hostages. The ceasefire also included a prisoner exchange and expanded humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The IDF confirmed the recovery of the remains of two hostages — Israeli Guy Iluz and Nepalese student Bipin Joshi — while Hamas has yet to return all bodies of deceased captives.
