Israel has set Donald Trump‘s upcoming trip to the Middle East as the deadline for a hostage and ceasefire deal, with a large-scale ground invasion of Gaza planned if no agreement is reached. The Israeli Security Cabinet approved “Gideon’s Chariots,” a plan to reoccupy and hold most of Gaza, displacing up to 2 million Palestinians into a single “humanitarian zone.” Remaining structures would be flattened by the IDF.

The alternative, officials say, is for Palestinians to “voluntarily” leave Gaza—aligned with Trump‘s vision—though no nation has agreed to accept them. Trump is not directly involved in ceasefire talks and won’t visit Israel during his regional trip. The U.S. focus has shifted to Ukraine and Iran.

Hamas seeks a full ceasefire and hostage release deal; Israel wants a partial agreement. Domestically, the plan is controversial, facing backlash from hostage families and reservists. A majority of Israelis oppose a major invasion, according to polls.

Trump recently pledged aid to Gaza civilians, blaming Hamas for blocking relief.
