Negotiations over a truce and hostage deal between Hamas and Israel are ongoing, with Israel threatening to cut electricity to Gaza if Hamas doesn’t comply with its demands.

The conflict erupted after Hamas’ October 2023 attack, which killed 1,200 Israelis and led to Israel’s invasion of Gaza, where more than 60,000 Palestinians have reportedly been killed. A six-week ceasefire was agreed upon before President Donald Trump’s inauguration, but Israel wants to extend the first phase to continue hostage exchanges, while Hamas is pushing for the second phase of talks.

On Saturday, both sides signaled preparations for further negotiations, with Hamas citing “positive indicators” and Israel confirming a delegation will attend talks in Qatar on Monday.

With the ceasefire still uncertain, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has vowed to increase pressure, including potentially cutting off all electricity to Gaza if Hamas does not meet Israel’s demands.
