An investigation is underway after a Donald Trump 2024 campaign flag was briefly displayed beneath the U.S. and POW/MIA flags at the Delmar post office in New York. The flag, which appeared during the Memorial Day Parade, was removed later that morning. Local authorities have contacted the Office of the Postal Inspector to look into the matter.
The Hatch Act prohibits federal employees from engaging in certain political activities to ensure nonpartisan administration of federal programs and protect employees from political coercion. Mark Lawrence, a spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service, confirmed that postal workers did not place the flag and it was removed as soon as it was discovered.
This incident coincides with the closing stages of Trump’s criminal trial in Manhattan, where he faces 34 charges related to hush money payments. Trump has denied all charges and any affair with Stormy Daniels. The trial’s outcome is expected soon, with the former president having pleaded not guilty.
