The Trump administration has revoked a policy shielding sensitive locations like churches and schools from immigration enforcement operations. The new directive, announced by Acting DHS Secretary Benjamine Huffman, allows raids in previously off-limits areas, such as schools, places of worship, hospitals, and public gatherings.

“Criminals will no longer be able to hide in America’s schools and churches to avoid arrest,” DHS stated. The change aligns with President Trump’s intensified immigration crackdown, which includes declaring a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border, expanding border barriers, and labeling Mexican cartels as a terrorism threat.

The prior policy, established in a 2011 ICE memo, instructed officers to avoid arrests and surveillance in sensitive locations unless necessary. Immigration advocacy groups in cities like Chicago, a target for potential raids, are urging undocumented immigrants to educate themselves on their rights.
