In Huntington Beach, California, a recent vote has prohibited flying Pride flags on city property, with just over 58% of residents supporting Measure B. This measure, which solidifies an ordinance into the city’s charter, restricts the types of flags that can be flown on city grounds to a specific list including the U.S. flag, the California state flag, and others, with an exception process requiring unanimous council approval for additional flags.

The decision has sparked controversy, with critics labeling it a display of bigotry. The proposal, originating from council member Pat Burns, aimed to prevent actions that could be seen as divisive. However, opponents like council member Rhonda Bolton and organizations such as GLAAD argue that the measure sets a tone of discrimination and undermines the inclusivity symbolized by Pride flags.
