In a newly published interview, Hunter Biden claimed that former President Joe Biden took Ambien ahead of the pivotal June 2024 debate, suggesting the sleep aid contributed to his widely criticized performance. The comments were made during a discussion with YouTube host Andrew Callaghan and released on the anniversary of Biden’s announcement that he would not seek reelection.
“I know exactly what happened in that debate,” Hunter said. “He’s 81 years old. He’s tired as sh—. They give him Ambien to be able to sleep… he looks like a deer in the headlights.”
The debate was a turning point in the 2024 campaign. The then-president appeared sluggish and disoriented, sparking concern within his party. While aides initially cited a cold, later explanations included exhaustion from travel and campaign preparation at Camp David.
Hunter Biden also lashed out at high-profile Democrats critical of his father’s campaign, including George Clooney and former Obama advisor David Axelrod, whom he dismissed in harsh terms.
A spokesperson for the former president did not respond to requests for comment.
