Hundreds of protesters gathered outside Tesla showrooms across the U.S. on Saturday, condemning CEO Elon Musk’s role in the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and its push to slash federal spending.
The “Tesla Takedown” movement organized 80 demonstrations in Washington, D.C., Boston, and other cities, urging investors to divest from Tesla stock and electric vehicle owners to boycott the brand.
“Sell your Teslas, dump your stock, join the picket lines,” reads a statement on the group’s website. “Stopping Musk will help save lives and our democracy.”
Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) announced he had sold his Tesla, calling it “built and designed by an a–hole.” He criticized Musk’s involvement in Trump’s plans to cut Social Security and healthcare benefits.
Musk, a senior adviser to Trump, has advocated for closing USAID and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. He was seen at the White House on Tuesday showcasing Tesla models alongside Trump, who pledged to buy a Tesla in support of Musk.
