The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and its Equality Votes political action committee are launching a multimillion-dollar digital ad campaign targeting “equality voters” for the Harris-Walz ticket in battleground states. “This election is going to come down to the smallest of margins, but the difference between an equality champion like Kamala Harris in the White House or another reign of terror from Donald Trump couldn’t be greater,” said Guy Cecil, HRC’s chief strategist.
The campaign includes $2 million in ads, specifically a seven-figure digital effort reaching over 1.5 million voters in Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. One ad, “Not Going Back,” outlines Harris’s advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and warns of potential setbacks under Trump. Another ad, “Shadows,” claims Trump brings “hate out of the shadows.”
HRC defines “equality voters” as “LGBTQ+ voters and allies who prioritize LGBTQ+ inclusive policies,” estimating 75 million potential supporters. The PAC will also promote candidates like Reps. Ruben Gallego and Elissa Slotkin and Sens. Bob Casey and Tammy Baldwin to maintain a pro-equality Senate majority. Polls indicate a tight race, with Harris leading Trump by less than one point in key states.
