Former FBI Director James Comey will not testify in the House GOP’s investigation into financier Jeffrey Epstein after House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer rescinded a subpoena issued for his deposition scheduled Tuesday.
Comey had informed the committee he had no relevant information, writing in a letter that appearing “would unproductively consume the Committee’s scarce time and resources.” The committee is also seeking testimony from former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as part of the broader probe.
Epstein, who died in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking minors, previously pleaded guilty to related charges in Florida in 2008. His associate Ghislaine Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence for trafficking and conspiracy.
Epstein’s victims are expected to return to Capitol Hill this week alongside Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Thomas Massie, and Ro Khanna to urge the release of federal files on Epstein.
Comey was indicted last month on charges of obstructing a congressional proceeding and making false statements, which he denies.
