House Republicans voted 219-213 early Thursday to advance Donald Trump‘s sweeping “big, beautiful bill,” overcoming internal resistance in a dramatic, five-hour rule vote held open past midnight.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) faced a rebellion from both hardline conservatives and moderate Republicans, some of whom wanted more time to review the Senate’s changes to the bill, which include expanded deficit spending. But a last-minute push — including personal calls from Trump — won over the necessary holdouts.

In a rare moment, Johnson gathered dissenters for a prayer on the House floor and took a photo with them before securing their support. The final rule vote tees up a full vote on the bill later Thursday morning, clearing the path for Trump to sign it by July 4.

Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) was the lone Republican “no” vote. The final vote on the bill is expected around 8:30 a.m.
