Amid concerns about President Joe Biden’s impact on the 2024 campaign, a House Democrat from a swing district sought advice from Nancy Pelosi. The lawmaker, who was granted anonymity to describe private conversations, reported that Pelosi was attentive to district-level polling concerns and seemed to imply Biden should exit the presidential race. Pelosi offered to speak with other members who shared these worries but stated she would not initiate such conversations herself.

Pelosi’s behind-the-scenes role has become crucial as the Democratic Party navigates Biden’s political crisis. She has not disclosed her plans for the information she receives, but many colleagues view her as a key figure, capable of influencing Biden due to her strategic acumen and long-standing focus on winning the House.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries recently met with Biden to discuss the caucus’s concerns but has remained silent about the specifics, releasing a statement interpreted as supporting members who voice concerns about Biden. Pelosi’s allies, such as Rep. Jared Huffman and Rep. Adam Schiff, are also actively involved, with Huffman leading a letter to delay Biden’s nomination and Schiff warning that Biden might hinder Democrats’ chances of winning the House.
