Over 120 House Democrats have signed a resolution opposing former President Trump’s second withdrawal of the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, introduced Friday. The Senate version, supported by 22 Democrats, was spearheaded by Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), a prominent climate advocate.
Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.), who led the House effort alongside other Democratic lawmakers, criticized the withdrawal as a signal that the U.S. is “turning its back on a healthy and safe future.” Markey added that the resolution highlights continued congressional support for U.S. climate action, collaborating with local and nongovernmental partners.
Trump’s withdrawal, echoing his 2017 move, aligns with his broader plans to roll back Biden-era climate policies and boost domestic energy development. Meanwhile, Michael Bloomberg pledged funds to offset revenue losses to the UN climate body, continuing efforts he began during Trump’s first term.
