The Justice Department delivered 33,295 pages of material to the House Oversight Committee on Friday in response to a subpoena for all information from its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. But Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), the committee’s top Democrat, said Saturday that nearly all of the material had already been made public.

Garcia noted that just 3% of the files contained new information, while the remaining 97% had been previously released by the Justice Department, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, or the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office.

The Oversight Committee had demanded all records by Aug. 19 as part of its ongoing review. Garcia said the production raised concerns about transparency and how much more information the department may actually provide.

The case of Epstein, who died in jail in 2019 while facing federal sex trafficking charges, continues to fuel bipartisan scrutiny in Congress. Lawmakers are examining not only his criminal activities but also how federal and state agencies handled investigations tied to him and associates including Ghislaine Maxwell.
