Honduran President Xiomara Castro warned President-elect Donald Trump that his mass deportation plans could lead to U.S. troops being expelled from the Soto Cano air base in Comayagua. Castro called deportations a “hostile attitude” and suggested rethinking military cooperation with the U.S., where troops have been stationed for decades to combat drug trafficking.
Critics say removing troops would harm Honduras. Jorge Calix, a political rival, called it a dangerous move, while analyst Olban Valladares labeled the threat unrealistic. Foreign Minister Enrique Reina argued Castro has the authority to act.
Trump has pledged to launch the largest deportation program in U.S. history and impose tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China after his inauguration.
