Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem testified Tuesday before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, confirming that the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has been redirected away from combatting misinformation. Instead, the agency now focuses solely on protecting critical infrastructure.

Under the Trump administration, CISA had partnered with state and local governments to counter false narratives ahead of the 2024 election. That mission has now ended, according to Noem.

Noem also provided updates on the “Salt Typhoon” cyberattack attributed to China, which targeted U.S. telecoms and global networks in 2024. In response to Democrat concerns, Noem confirmed that President Trump’s birthday military parade on June 14 has been designated a special security event involving multiple agencies.

She defended DHS’s $200 million “Stronger Borders, Stronger America” ad campaign, which promotes self-deportation and is airing both domestically and internationally. Noem said the media has not done enough to highlight the administration’s border policies.
