Former ICE Director Tom Homan pledged to partner with Texas Governor Greg Abbott to bolster border security efforts, citing dissatisfaction with the Biden administration’s immigration policies. Homan plans to visit the southern border in Texas as part of preparations for a potential return to Trump-era policies.

Homan praised Abbott’s initiatives, stating Texas has reduced illegal crossings by over 80% by implementing measures like border barriers and arrests. “We’re going to build upon the success,” Homan said, emphasizing future cooperation to secure the southwest border.

The federal government previously sued Texas for installing barbed wire, with the Supreme Court affirming its authority to remove such barriers. While federal agents dismantled some fencing, Abbott’s administration continues to install barriers, leading to a lawsuit against the Department of Justice. A judicial panel has temporarily halted further removals.

Abbott’s border security efforts, initiated after President Biden took office, have resulted in over 526,000 apprehensions and 48,700 criminal arrests, including 41,900 felony charges.
