Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned of efforts to “distort and pervert” Vice President Kamala Harris in the lead-up to the election, referencing past misinformation campaigns. In an interview with “Firing Line” host Margaret Hoover, Clinton pointed to the 2016 “pizzagate” conspiracy, where false claims about her led to a North Carolina man opening fire in a Washington, D.C., pizza parlor.
Clinton emphasized that similar misinformation could target Harris, particularly from online sources and foreign actors like Russia, Iran, and China. She stressed the need for the press to maintain a “consistent narrative” about the dangers of misinformation and its potential influence on the election. “There will be something, and we’ll have to work very, very hard to make sure that it is exposed as the lie that it is,” she said.
