Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is set to revoke former Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley’s personal security detail and security clearance, according to multiple reports. The administration is also pushing for Milley’s demotion in retirement, with the Pentagon’s acting Inspector General directed to review whether his actions undermined the chain of command.
Additionally, Milley’s second Pentagon portrait, honoring his time as Army chief of staff, will be removed, following the earlier removal of his Joint Chiefs portrait.
Milley’s strained relationship with Trump dates back to 2020, when he apologized for appearing in a Trump photo-op during racial justice protests. He also reassured China of U.S. stability in Trump’s final days, prompting Trump to call him “treasonous.” However, Milley was preemptively pardoned by Biden on his last day in office.
This follows Trump’s recent decision to end security details for John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, and Brian Hook.
