Vice President Kamala Harris faced interruptions from protesters at her Detroit campaign rally, marking the first such incident since launching her presidential campaign. Demonstrators shouted, “Kamala, Kamala, you can’t hide, we won’t vote for genocide,” as Harris addressed a crowd of supporters. The crowd responded with chants of “Kamala,” attempting to drown out the protesters.
Harris acknowledged the interruptions, saying, “Everyone’s voice matters, but I am speaking now.” When the protests continued, she warned, “If you want Donald Trump to win then say that. Otherwise, I’m speaking.”
The protests reflect growing concerns among Arab Americans, particularly in Michigan, over the Biden administration’s handling of the Gaza conflict. The war has divided Democrats, especially after Hamas killed 1,200 Israelis in October, prompting an Israeli military response that has resulted in significant Palestinian casualties.
Harris, aligned with President Biden, emphasized Israel’s right to defend itself while also calling for more efforts to protect civilians in Gaza.
