Kamala Harris sharply criticized Donald Trump Wednesday night, blaming him for what she called the “greatest man-made economic crisis in modern presidential history.” Speaking at a San Francisco gala marking the 20th anniversary of Emerge America, Harris used her first major address since leaving office to mark Trump’s 100th day in his second term.
The former vice president condemned Trump’s 145% tariffs on China, warning they are “clearly inviting a recession.” She denounced his administration as one that “punishes truth tellers” and undermines due process, praising judges and universities resisting what she called “unconstitutional demands.”
Trump, in a NewsNation town hall held the same evening, defended his trade policies, arguing they are needed to restore fair trade and protect U.S. industries. He dismissed criticism, saying he expects “tremendous economic victories” within a year and denied making mistakes.
Harris has remained relatively quiet since the 2024 election loss, but her renewed public presence is fueling speculation she may run for California governor in 2026.
