The Haitian Bridge Alliance, a nonprofit advocating for the Haitian community, filed charges against former President Donald Trump and Senator JD Vance, accusing them of inciting chaos and threats in Springfield, Ohio. The charges follow Trump’s false claims during a presidential debate about legal immigrants in the city. The nonprofit’s attorney, Subodh Chandra, said the move came after local prosecutors failed to act.
The charges, which are rare but legal in Ohio, include disrupting public services, making false alarms, and aggravated menacing. The filing asks the Clark County Municipal Court to determine probable cause and issue arrest warrants.
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung defended Trump, blaming the immigration system for bringing illegal immigrants into communities. The influx of 15,000 to 20,000 Haitian immigrants in Springfield, many recruited for jobs and granted legal Temporary Protected Status, has led to growing tensions. The city has faced over 30 bomb threats, prompting closures and heightened security.
