A hacker, using the name “Altam Beezley,” accessed confidential witness testimony related to investigations into former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), according to reports by The New York Times and CBS News. The breach involved 24 exhibits, including testimony from a woman alleging she had sex with Gaetz at age 17 and another who claimed to witness the encounter. The files, part of a civil defamation case, also reportedly include sealed materials from the Justice Department and House Ethics Committee.

Gaetz, who resigned from Congress last week before a report from the Ethics Committee could be released, denies allegations of sexual misconduct and illicit drug use. The Justice Department previously declined to charge him after a separate investigation. Calls are growing for the committee to make its findings public, especially as senators weigh Gaetz’s nomination for attorney general. Rep. Susan Wild (D-Pa.) has voiced support for releasing the report.
