A new report from Greensboro, North Carolina highlights growing anxiety among small businesses over rising costs caused by President Trump’s tariffs, with toy and comic retailers expecting prices to spike and inventory to tighten.

At Toys & Co., owner Marc Holcomb says some suppliers have already raised prices by as much as 35%, and he fears another round of increases as new 145% tariffs take hold. “We thought there’s gonna be a second round of price increases across the board,” Holcomb warned.

An Elon University poll found 65% of Americans worry tariffs will strain household budgets. Comic shop owner Ben Roberts echoed those fears, noting that most inventory is imported. “If [prices] raise way too much… it’s a hobby people can easily drop out of, and that’s frightening.”

So far, both stores are avoiding price hikes, but may not be able to hold out much longer.

President Trump maintains that tariffs will spur American manufacturing long-term.
