Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) expressed confidence that the next U.S. attorney general will prosecute individuals for “crimes against humanity” linked to the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking at a congressional hearing on pandemic preparedness, Greene said those who “perpetuated and continue to perpetuate these crimes” should face legal action.

Greene’s comments follow President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement of former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) as his attorney general pick, though Gaetz faces skepticism from Senate Republicans over his confirmation prospects. Greene has previously called for the prosecution of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, for his handling of the pandemic.

Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) echoed Greene’s stance, targeting Fauci’s former senior adviser, Dr. David Morens, for allegedly violating policies, deleting emails, and avoiding transparency requirements. Comer stated his intent to work with the Trump administration to remove “unaccountable federal employees.”
