Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) on Monday urged President Trump to impose new sanctions on Russia following a surge in attacks on Ukrainian cities.

“I’ve had enuf of Putin killing innocent ppl. Pres Trump Take action AT LEAST SANCTIONS,” Grassley wrote on X, as Russian forces intensified missile strikes during the third year of war in Ukraine.

The call came a day after Trump sharply criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin, writing on Truth Social that Putin had gone “absolutely crazy” and was “killing a lot of people.” Trump added, “I don’t like it at all,” referencing ongoing rocket attacks on Kyiv.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has shown reluctance about imposing new sanctions, citing concerns they could disrupt fragile peace efforts. Trump, however, said Sunday he would “absolutely” consider sanctions.

Russia is already under sweeping sanctions from the U.S. and allies, including restrictions on its central bank assets and oil exports.

Trump has pushed for a 30-day ceasefire and claimed he could quickly end the war. While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky supports the plan, Putin skipped recent peace talks in Turkey, sending a lower-level delegation instead.
